Many wonder how much they need to spend on LASIK in Singapore in 2024. If you’re asking yourself the same question, then you’ve come to the right place!
The truth is, LASIK surgery can be expensive, so you might need to prepare for it financially. It can set you back no less than a thousand dollars, excluding consultations and post-surgery medications.
Below, we’ve put together a quick guide that will walk you through everything you need to know about the cost of LASIK in Singapore.
What happens during LASIK?
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In situ Keratomileusis) is one of the most popular laser-based, minimally invasive eye surgeries used to treat common vision errors, such as myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism.
During LASIK, the surgeon uses a specialised precise laser to correct the shape of the cornea. This reshaping allows light to refract better, thereby improving overall vision.
So… how much is LASIK in Singapore?
Depending on the clinic type of LASIK surgery, the cost usually ranges from $1,200 to 5,000+, excluding initial and follow-up consultations and post-surgery medications.
Consultation fees also vary per clinic and depending on the surgeon’s experience. To give you an idea, Shinagawa Eye Centre usually charges around $150 to $210 for initial consultations and $110 to $150 for follow-up consultations.
Just a friendly reminder here that can be quite challenging to make comparisons between clinics and hospitals because there are multiple factors involved that affect their pricing.
The good news is, there’s actually not much of a difference between the LASIK pricing of private clinics and public hospitals.
Many clinics and hospitals offer LASIK packages that include pre- and post-operative services. The difference in pricing is usually attributed to the inclusions of each package.
That’s why it’s best to shop around for options to get a better estimate of your chosen procedure and avoid paying for hidden, unnecessary fees.

Can I use MediSave to pay for LASIK in Singapore?
Although LASIK is technically a surgical procedure, it’s categorised as a cosmetic one, so the procedure costs for most people cannot be subsidised by their MediSave. However, there are certain exceptions to this rule!
You can only use Medisave to pay for LASIK if you:
- have a difference of 300 degrees between your two eyes
- require LASIK to correct errors from past procedures like cataract surgery
- have been deemed unsuitable to wear glasses or contact lenses by your ophthalmologist
How about my insurance?
Unfortunately, the majority of insurance plans in Singapore don’t include LASIK costs in their coverage because it’s considered an elective surgery. This means that it’s a non-emergency surgery and can be scheduled in advance.
